Angels: does it matter what form they take, if we believe that we have encountered one? As a feeling, an insight, in a dream, seeing them shimmering in the darkness, glowing in radiant white robes with a vitality not of this world or in the guise of cloud, a song, a picture, a hug, a meaningful coincidence or the actions of a kind stranger. However they appear, does it really matter as long as angel encounters bring with them an awareness of the life-transforming truth that whatever our age, background and circumstances in this life we are never alone?

Anyway, it was the night before I would find out the results and I just couldn’t settle at all. I longed for good news but in my mind I was convinced that I was never going to be a mother and for the first time I’d seriously discussed the possibility of adoption with Simon, my partner. That hadn’t really given me the comfort I thought it would because even though he didn’t say it I could tell that he was only doing it to make me happy – if he had a choice he would prefer not to adopt because what he really wanted was his own child. Perhaps he would tire of it all and find another
